The Lucknow Super Giants captain, Rahul, suffered the injury while fielding during a match against Royal Challengers Bangalore earlier this month, and he was forced to miss the remainder of the IPL as well as the WTC championship. The World Tennis Championship final will be held at The Oval in London from June 7–11.
"The All-India Senior Selection Committee has named Ishan Kishan as KL Rahul's replacement (for the WTC final)," according to a statement from BCCI secretary Jay Shah.
"On May 1, during Match 43 of the TATA IPL 2023 between the Lucknow Super Giants and Royal Challengers Bangalore, KL Rahul sustained an injury to his right upper thigh while fielding."
Kishan's selection proved that Shiv Sunder Das' committee has chosen consistency above veteran stumper Wriddhiman Saha, who is having a fantastic IPL season.
There was no chance that the soon-to-be 39-year-old veteran would have been appointed as the successor once Saha was explicitly informed last year that he would no longer be selected for national duty since they wanted someone younger to serve as Rishabh Pant's deputy.
"Kishan was assigned to serve as the Border Gavaskar Trophy's backup goalkeeper. Wriddhiman Saha was not discussed, a source with knowledge of the situation informed PTI under the condition of anonymity.
The BCCI also stated that a decision about left-arm pacer Jaydev Unadkat's participation in the WTC final, who sustained a shoulder injury to his bowling arm while practicing for LSG prior to the RCB game, will be made at a later time.
Rahul would have surgery "at the earliest opportunity," according to Shah, and then undergo "rehab at the National Cricket Academy for the same."

"The fast bowler has begun low-intensity bowling as part of his rehabilitation process. He is now being looked after by the KKR Medical Team. The BCCI Medical Team is in frequent contact with the KKR Medical Team and is keeping a close eye on Umesh's development, the statement said.
Easwaran no longer a standby
When Bengal opener Abhimanyu Easwaran was not selected as a standby for the one-off final despite the Bengal opener appearing to be in good health, the national selectors raised some questions.
